I once thought I knew the verse
Thought I knew what had been written

Thought, blindly
Thoughts.

Then a girl came to me
She was a young dark lady
She gave me a paper
which read one letter

"Aleph"

And I saw the Tower of sand

Aleph

A line crossing the horizon
A light defying oblivion
All around red rocks I feared to awake

I entered a Tower of strength
Forgot the eyes of the dark lady
Heard words in the library
(el que vio el Aleph)
Felt blood on the walls and tenderness
in the air

(Aleph)

The blood echoed through the corridor
Mingled with the southern voice
And I heard a song
I listened to a song

The song was like an ajar door

The song was like a cloudy cloak
A cloth of dew and unheard love
A cloth worn by blind men
To make them see again.

And all moved through this vivid letter :

Aleph

It collapsed and left me, but i was no longer blind

For I read the words which drowned in the dust
Heard the old song in the oldest fashion
And dreamt my unreal dream
in a piece of paper.

Aleph
